Midwest Clinic Information Page for the 2023 Brandeis Symphony
Summer Meeting
Dear Brandeis Symphony Orchestra Students and Parents,
First, we hope all of you are doing well and having a great start to your summer. We recently received approval from NISD for the Midwest Clinic Trip and will be able to provide you with much of the information you will need for next semester's Midwest Trip. To do so, we will be having a 1-hr meeting from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 27th in the Brandeis Auditorium. At that time, we will go over the trip contract, music expectations, trip insurance, and payment plans. We will send out the contract prior to the meeting. Our goal is to receive the following: signed student/parent contracts and receive deposits ($200). All of this information will be possible online. We will be providing a zoom link for the meeting, downloadable contracts to sign and return via email, and online payment links.
As has been mentioned, the Brandeis Symphony is the first high school symphony from NISD to be invited to perform at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. Mr. Aguirre, Mr. Jung and I completed an extensive application including submitting our recordings from the Tobin Center, videos of our conducting, previous year's programs and recommendations from well-known conductors and educators. Out of a total of 244 applicants only 9 orchestras were selected. Of those ensembles, only 3 full orchestras were selected for the honor of performing at the Midwest Clinic. Brandeis High School will be the only full orchestra from San Antonio, TX.
Mr. Aguirre, Mr. Jung and I have been working with our tour operator, Note-Able Travel Experiences, and the Midwest Clinic on the programming and organization of this performance and trip. The orchestra will be performing approximately 9-10 pieces, a 45 minute program. The concert will include guest conductors, guest soloists, new compositions, classical favorites, and different types and levels of music. The clinic requires a variety of different styles, difficulty levels, and new music in concert programming.
Our focus for the summer and fall semester will be on preparing for the very best quality performance for this international clinic.
Again, congratulations to our students, parents, private teachers, and community members. We look forward to this experience for our students, parents, and directors.
Sincerely,
Mr. Garcia-Hettinger, Mr. Aguirre, and Mr. Jung
